What's new in Nexus

Every release, newest first. Updates install automatically.

  1. Security, Usage and UI Improvements

    Fixed

    • Fixed the misleading security indicator. The padlock now appears only on HTTPS connections, while plain HTTP connections display a “Not secure” indicator.
    • Improved token limit enforcement. Added safeguards to prevent large or concurrent requests from exceeding the configured five-hour usage limit.
    • Improved usage limit handling. Refined token budget management to help prevent users from exhausting their quotas too quickly and make usage restrictions clearer.
    • Strengthened API key security. Removed API key regeneration to ensure that each user receives a single API key, eliminating repeated key generation as a potential avenue for abuse.
    • Improved abuse prevention. Strengthened usage tracking and account-level restrictions to reduce attempts to circumvent usage limits through repeated sign-ins or account activity.

    Improved

    • Restyled the Settings tab. Refreshed the interface for a cleaner appearance, improved consistency, and a better overall user experience.
    • Restyled the Nexus Cloud AI Assistant tab. Updated the assistant interface with a refreshed visual design for a cleaner, more cohesive experience across the app.
  2. Cloud AI Fix

    Fixed

    • Fixed another WASM error affecting Cloud AI. Resolved a WebAssembly issue that could interfere with the Cloud AI feature and prevent it from working correctly.
  3. WASM Error Fix

    Fixed

    • Fixed the ERR: [wasm] [object ErrorEvent] bug. Resolved an issue that could cause WebAssembly (WASM) operations to fail and produce unhandled error events.
  4. Cache Fix

    Fixed

    • Fixed net::ERR_CACHE_READ_FAILURE. Resolved an issue that could cause pages and web content in Nexus's Browser to fail to load when the browser encountered corrupted, stale, or unreadable cached data.
    • Nexus now automatically clears its application cache with every new build, ensuring each release starts with fresh resources and preventing outdated or corrupted cached data from interfering with the app.
  5. Sign In, Stay Safe

    New

    • Sign in with Google or GitHub. Your account is created automatically the first time.
    • Automatic updates. Nexus checks for new versions in the background and shows an install prompt when one is ready. Every update is digitally signed and verified before it installs, and your unsaved edits are saved first - so you never lose a thing across an update.
    • Images in notes. Insert them from the toolbar, paste them, or drag them in. They're stored in your local vault and included in your backups.
    • Per-note AI switch. Set a note to "AI: Off" and it's never sent to the Assistant as context.
    • Support section in Settings. Contact us or copy the support address in one click.

    Improved

    • Links that try to open a new window now open as a new tab in Nexus's Browser.
    • Safety copies of your database are made automatically before each update and before each restore, so a bad migration or a wrong backup file can always be undone.
    • Faster queries across notes, links, tags, version history, and chats, thanks to new database indexes.
  6. Hardened & Secure

    Web & External Content

    • Strengthened protections around web search and page retrieval.
    • External web content continues to be treated as untrusted data.
    • Improved URL validation before external requests are made.
    • Added additional checks against unsafe redirects and restricted destinations.
    • Tightened protections against requests attempting to access private, local, or internal resources.
    • Improved handling of unusually large or malformed web responses.

    Files & Downloads

    • Reviewed file-handling and export operations for unsafe paths.
    • Strengthened validation of file destinations and user-provided filenames.
    • Improved protections against path traversal and unintended file access.
    • Tightened restrictions around downloaded content and locally stored files.
  7. Polished & Refined

    Improved

    • Refined themes and visual styling across the application for a more consistent and polished appearance.
    • Improved the custom title bar so it integrates more naturally with the active theme.
    • Refined colors, spacing, borders, and interface details throughout Nexus.
    • Improved navigation and overall usability, making the app feel more responsive and easier to move through.
    • Polished note lists, tabs, settings, and other frequently used interface elements.
    • Improved visual consistency between different parts of the application and across different themes.
    • Refined small interaction details and UI states to make the application feel more cohesive.
    • Made various minor performance and stability improvements.

    Fixed

    • Fixed several small server-side bugs affecting reliability and edge cases.
    • Resolved minor issues with server responses and internal request handling.
    • Fixed miscellaneous UI inconsistencies and small interaction bugs.
    • Addressed several edge cases discovered during continued use and testing.

    Removed

    • Removed leftover code from previous title-bar implementations that was no longer needed.
    • Cleaned up unused platform-specific dependencies and internal code paths.
  8. Your Vault, Fully Searchable

    New

    • Searches your whole vault. Notes are split into overlapping sections and indexed on-device, so long notes are searched in full. Search combines meaning and exact keywords, so names, places, and dates are found reliably. The Sources row under an answer links back to the notes used.
    • Live web search. The Assistant can search the web when a question needs current information.
    • Account panel in Settings. See your usage over the last 5 hours, generate a new key (up to 3 times per account), sign out, or permanently delete your account. Your key is stored in your operating system's secure credential store.
    • [[ autocomplete. Type [[ to pick a note, or create a link to one that doesn't exist yet. Links and #tags appear as clickable pills.
    • Smarter undo. Undo now steps back one word at a time.
    • Redesigned toolbar and tab overview. A compact address bar, a full-screen tab grid, a bookmarks library, and a downloads panel with Open and Show in folder.
    • Knowledge Graph. Mentioning another note's title now draws a dashed line, folders are color-coded, and pinned notes get a gold ring.

    Improved

    • Faster search and startup on large vaults, thanks to a more compact search index and indexed database lookups.
    • Safer web reading. Nexus refuses to read pages on private or local network addresses, re-checks every redirect, and caps page size. Page text is treated as untrusted, and pages with one-time links (verify, reset, unsubscribe) are never fetched.
    • Downloads can only be opened from your Downloads folder, and exports reject unsafe file paths.
  9. Stay Up to Date

    New

    • Automatic updates. Nexus now checks for new versions in the background and shows a small notice when one is available. Choose Install and Nexus downloads the update, saves any unsaved edits, and restarts on its own. Choose Later and it won't interrupt you. Every update is cryptographically signed, and Nexus refuses to install anything that fails verification to keep your device safe.
    • Check for updates in Settings. A new button lets you check on demand and shows the version you're running.
    • Safety copy before upgrades. The first time Nexus launches after a version change, it saves a copy of your database to the restore-backups folder, so a bad migration is always recoverable.
    • Export a note as PDF. The Export PDF button produces a PDF that matches how the note looks in the editor, including tables, task lists, code blocks, [[Note Links]], tags, and images.
    • Keep individual notes away from the AI. The AI: On / AI: Off toggle on each note controls whether its content can ever be used as context for the Assistant.

    Upgrading

    • This is the first version that can update itself, so install 6.3.0 manually once. After that, future updates arrive in-app.
    • Your database updates automatically on first launch. No action needed.
    • Windows and macOS may show a one-time security prompt on first install. Choose to run or open the app anyway if it appears.
  10. Nexus 6.2.0
